On behalf of Public Safety Canada,  Kūwiingu-néewul Engagement Services (KES) has a number of their Facilitators working on the Aboriginal Community Safety Planning Initiative. Each facilitator guides a collaborative planning process with an Indigenous community they were assigned to by Public Safety. This role involves coordinating multi‑stakeholder dialogues, conducting needs and resource assessments, and cultivating a trusted relationship with local leadership and community members.

Our Key Responsibilities are as follows:

  • Planning and convening workshops that bring together elders, youth, service providers, law enforcement, and community stakeholders to collectively identify local safety concerns and prevention priorities.

  • Designing and delivering a trauma-informed facilitation approach that respects cultural protocols, and fosters inclusive, safe spaces for dialogue and shared decision-making.

  • Synthesizing community input into draft safety plans, ensuring feasibility, cultural relevance, and alignment with federal funding objectives.

  • Supporting the development of sustainable strategies, including long-term evaluation and monitoring frameworks, in keeping with Public Safety Canada’s emphasis on community-led resilience and capacity building.

By bridging Indigenous knowledge and community strengths with structured strategic guidance, the facilitator enables a plan rooted in local context yet poised for scale and sustainability. This ensures funded initiatives serve both immediate risk mitigation and longer-term community wellness objectives.
